Views sought on Parish proposals

Views sought on Parish proposals

People are being invited to share their views on proposed changes to parish boundaries and arrangements in the Harborough district.

All parishes in the Harborough district are being reviewed by Harborough District Council as part of a Community Governance Review to ensure they continue to best meet the needs of the local community.

Existing parish councils and parish meetings have already been consulted along with other stakeholders including local residents, local community groups and organisations who have put forward their views and suggestions. These have been considered and draft recommendations have been approved for further consultation.

The public consultation will run from 1 October to 30 November 2020.

Cllr Paul Dann, Harborough District Council's Cabinet lead for Corporate & Regulatory Services, said: "It is important for local democracy that people have their say on these proposals which potentially impact on the decision-making process in their area, so I encourage people to take this opportunity to share their views."

The changes proposed are:

Claybrooke Magna

Increase the number of parish councillors for Claybrooke Magna Parish Council from 5 to 6.

Husbands Bosworth

Increase the number of parish councillors for Husbands Bosworth Parish Council from 6 to 7.

Lubenham/Market Harborough

Proposal to amend the parish boundary with Market Harborough such that the new development currently under construction on the eastern edge of the parish falls within Market Harborough.

Kibworth Harcourt/Kibworth Beauchamp

Proposal to change parish boundary on Kibworth Meadows development so all houses fall within Kibworth Harcourt parish boundary (Barnards Way, Longbreach Road and Bush Road).

Saddington/Fleckney

Proposal to change the parish boundary with Saddington to incorporate the whole of the new housing development currently being built (Appleyard Park) within the parish of Fleckney

East Langton/West Langton

Proposal to change the parish boundary to incorporate houses on the edge of the village of Church Langton currently within the parish of West Langton within the parish of East Langton.

Tur Langton/East Langton

Proposal to change the parish boundary to incorporate properties currently in the parish of Tur Langton within the parish of East Langton.

Thurnby and Bushby

Proposal to remove the warding from the parish of Thurnby and Bushby and that council size is set at 10 parish councillors.

East Langton

Proposal that the parish of East Langton is not warded but that consultation be carried out with the parish council on re-naming the parish to reflect both East Langton and Church Langton within the name.

Further information, including how you can submit comments on the proposals, is available on the Council's website at www.harborough.gov.uk/cgr

Once feedback has been received and considered, the final recommendations will be submitted to Council for approval in January 2021.

The last review of Harborough District parishes was undertaken in 2012.
