The Council Month March 2020

The Council Month March 2020

Fri, 03 Apr 2020 19:00

March

Completed

Coronavirus: As the pandemic strikes Britain social distancing and isolation is adopted in Shearsby. All events in the village hall, church and on the green have been cancelled until further notice. A group of volunteers posted a leaflet through every door (with the Swift Flash) offering assistance. The Council follows news and instructions from Harborough District Council (HDC), Leicestershire and Rutland Association of Local Councils (LRALC) and National Association Local Councils (NALC). The Chandlers are making Sunday lunches for those in social isolation. The request to applaud the NHS for its efforts has been loudly enjoined.

News: Foodbank 9kg collected in February. Grass cutting of the green and verges has resumed.

Website: A page has been set up on the Council website with Coronavirus news and advice. www.shearsbyparishcouncil.gov.uk

Events: All events cancelled due to coronavirus. Mike and Laura Bent intend to host exercise classes when the time is right.

HDC: District Councillors have been chased for input at our meetings.

LCC: The drains in the village have been cleaned A full repair to Mill Lane drains is likely to wait until 2022.

Church: It is with sadness we report the death of John Raven, long time Reader at St Mary Magdalene Church. The Hexagon will not be printed for April but is to be found on the website.

Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground (BPG): BPG has been acquired by Cox Automotive UK. They have requested an informal meeting with the Council when social distancing is over.

Planning: The Bakehouse in Mill Lane wishes to replace windows. The extension and work to Meadowcroft in Church Lane has been approved.

Community Association: VE Day celebration on 8th May is cancelled but consideration is being given to VJ Day on 15th August instead. A grant of £500 was obtained by the Council from HDC to help with the celebrations but we are to await clearance from HDC. The litter pick saw over 20 people volunteering and they collected more than 60 bags of rubbish.

Clerk: LRALC Round Robin; Clerks weekly updates, readying summary for end of year finances

SPC: The new 5 year plan has commenced to be written. A Council Meeting was held on 12th March Please see the website or the notice board for the minutes.
